Expert Family Mediation in Eastbourne. We help you find peaceful, fair solutions for family matters, divorce, separation, finance and child arrangements outside of court. Our professional, FMC registered, mediators offer a calm space to resolve matters as amicably as possible and to foster family unity - quickly and cost effectively.
A Path Toward Calmer Horizons
We are specialist, registered divorce and separation mediators. Our approach is centered on creating a supportive environment where your family's needs come first. Through professional guidance, we help you navigate challenging conversations, focus on what is important and find tailored, fair and realistic solutions that work for everyone. Quickly and more cost effectively than court or solicitors!
The Process:
1. Book a free 15 minute phone consultation or go straight to a MIAM - this is a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting to help you understand if mediation is right for you. MIAMs are individual meetings usually held via online video calls (they can be in person if preferred) and last about 45 minutes.
2. The second person is invited to attend a MIAM. After your sessions you can get a MIAM form, which is often required by court. If the other person refuses to come to Mediation, you can still get a MIAM and the other person's refusal to attend it noted.
3. You decide if you'd like to try Mediation or go to court.
4. If you decide to try Mediation, a joint meeting is set up. These usually last about 90 minutes. You are usually in the same room, but separate rooms can be provided or the meetings can be held online. Your mediator guides you through productive discussions about possible solutions - tailored to your unique needs and circumstances. You can discuss anything that is important to you, review finances and you can consider creative solutions. The mediator does not take sides or make judgements. Any offers or suggestions are confidential and cannot be used in court. Each person pays for their share of the session. In some instances where children are involved the government can provide a £500 voucher towards costs.
5. There are usually 2 - 4 Joint Mediation sessions, depending on the complexity of your situation.
6. If you reach agreement, your mediator writes this up in a Memorandum of Understanding, also with an Open Statement of Financial Information if finances are discussed. This is shared with you, and if you have them, with your solicitors.
7. You decide if you would like to make the solutions binding.
